I. Chapter 1: Suburban Bliss A. Typical day after school B. Max leaves and hangs at Dereks house C. Derek calls other friends over phone 1. Derek calls Brian first, Brian has car. 2. Max calls Ada, Justin, and Brian to make plans for movie trek. D. Friends arrive 1. Ada arrives first, talks with Max and Derek about something in the new or entertainment. 2. Justin and Brian arrive together…they all go outside and wait for Anthony. 3. Anthony arrives…says he had to do some chore at home before coming, even though the others don’t care that he was 4 minutes late. 4. The movie didn’t start for 2 hours, so they planned to just surf the mall until the movie started. 5. After the movie they drop off Ada, Justin . 6. Max mentions earlier to Anthony that he needs to pickup his bag he left at the hangout in the woods…Derek plans to join them for a talk while treking into the woods and back. II. Chapter 2: School A. Early morning 1. Max wakes up and eats cornflakes. 2. Watches news…Libya, Iraq, or Iran conflict. B. Max leaves and catches bus as it is about to leave. C. First period, Gym 1. Cheerleaders take less attractive girl, and point her out as having a crush on Anthony. 2. Jocks play basketball, wear name brand athletic gear. 3. D. second period, History, plans after school with Derek. 1. Max and Derek make plans for after school. 2. History teaching about Hiroshima or WWII to foreshadow coming events. E. Lunch 1. Max sits with Anthony…tells him about evenings plans. 2. Justin sits down and wants to join in. III. Chapter 3: Red Night Tower A. Justins house 1. They go into justins house. 2. The walls of the house are cluttered with religious icons. 3. Justins parents seem very very odd. 4. His mother has strange logic influenced by religious propaganda. B. Trek into the outskirts of Arcadia 1. They leave to hangout at the state park outside of town IV. Chapter 4: Ham radio A. Radio Tower 1. Abandoned radio tower with equipment that picks up signals from military…gives them lead on nuclear strike. V. Chapter 5: news stirring, preparation A. Max working on bbs…answering messages from locals…managing file archive..5:04 PM B. 5 oclock news on CBS……Anti-nuclear demonstrations at Army’s Seneca, NY C. Went to commercial…Nature Valley Granola Bars and General Motors service. VI. Chapter 6: evacuation and escape VII. Chapter 7: scortched earth VIII. Chapter 8: candle lit subterrean A. Two and a half weeks of waiting for fallout to end. IX. Chapter 9: Exploration of a Brave New World
